Thank you to everyone who came out to WordCamp last week and another huge thank you to all of our speakers, sponsors, organisers and volunteers – without all of you, this event would just not have been possible.
Now that everything is over, we would love to hear your feedback. So, if you attended, please fill out the attendee survey so we can work to improve things for future WordCamps in Cape Town.
And don’t forget that we have a meetup group for the entire WordPress Cape Town community that you can join and get involved in right here. As well as an active Slack channel for the entire WordPress community of South Africa – you can join that here.
Here are a few highlight photos from the 2 days, so you can reflect on how awesome it was and you can view the rest of the photos in our Facebook album. The workshop & session videos will also be online soon and we will update everyone as we have them available!

In past years, WordCamp Cape Town has included roving happiness experts who were available to help you with any WordPress-related support queries you would have. This year, however, we’re formalising that system a little bit more and setting up a dedicated Happiness Bar.
At any point during any of the breaks in the schedule you can go over to the Happiness Bar with your WordPress questions and there will a be a number of dedicated experts who will help you in any way that you need. Your questions can be anything from the most basic of things (‘What is WordPress?’) to the most complicated you can come up with.
So come with your questions and don’t be afraid to ask them 🙂
For a parent (single or otherwise) it can be tough to get to a conference and spend a bit of time bettering yourself with great speakers and great community, but if you find yourself unable to attend WordCamp because you have parental duties, then we’ve got your back!
Our awesome venue is not only one of the best conference venues in our city, but it also features the River Rascals Kids Club – a supervised play area for your children where they will be guaranteed to enjoy themselves while you are attending WordCamp.
So, you may be able to convince your boss to let you attend, but now you can convince your kids too!
Remember last year, when we all printed out our own Twitter and Instagram photos at WordCamp:
How awesome was this? ^
Well we’re doing that again this year!
We’re very happy to once again announce that we will have the Brandrocket booth available for all your social printing needs.
Taking selfies? Photos of the speakers? Photos of the new friends you’ve made while playing WordCamp Bingo? Well just upload them to Twitter and Instagram with the
#wcct hashtag and they will automatically be printed out and ready for you to collect. Easy!

Hi there everyone,
Time sure does fly! It’s almost hard to believe that this is going to be our third WordCamp Cape Town. Oh…you hadn’t heard? Well, surprise: after having so much fun with you folks in 2013 and 2014, we’ll be back to host WordCamp Cape Town one more time in the glorious surrounds of The River Club in Observatory.
Why? Well, isn’t it obvious that this year’s WCCT is going to be the best one yet? Spread over two days for the first time, 2015’s edition is bigger and better than ever before. An amazing lineup of local and international speakers, workshops with some of the best in the business to help you level-up your skills and – let’s be honest here, a highlight of every WordCamp worth mentioning – ridiculously good food and coffee to help keep your energy levels up.
WP Bingo? Golf clubs? Free swag†? A sweet after-party where you can mingle with some of the smartest, most good-looking people the community has to offer? You bet. We’ll be there to help guide you through the day and make sure you have a great time. Don’t worry – we won’t be doing any impromptu haircuts and Gareth has promised to not fall through the stage this year. Third time’s the charm, right?
Convince your boss that you need to attend this year’s WCCT. If they play hardball, we’ll be happy to phone them up and explain the situation to him or her*. We’re nice like that.
We look forward to seeing all of you at The River Club on September 10 and 11, and remember: everybody who attends gets a free back rub¶ from Nic. Deal? Deal.
† Cool promotional merchandise, not the the street-smart attitude and style.
* These phone calls may occur at 3am and may/may not involve heavy breathing. You have been warned.
¶ And by “back rub” we actually mean “handshake”.
Long-time community member Ashley Shaw has been hard work at work putting together what is sure to be a hugely valuable and fun day for anyone involved in WordPress agency development. This event will be connected to WordCamp Cape Town 2015 and will be happening the day after WordCamp is finished. It is open to anyone to attend (even if you don’t attend WordCamp), but it is targeted primarily at WordPress agencies. So without further ado – here’s Ashley to tell you all about it!

The thing that makes WordCamp truly great is not just the awesome content, but the members of the community who you will meet during the event. To help you along your way, we have put together a game of WordCamp bingo for you to enjoy, and get you to meet and chat to as many people as possible over the course of the conference. So you’re all excited for WordCamp, right? Two full days of WordPress learning and fun – what’s not to be excited about?
To make it even better, we’re hosting what is sure to be a hugely entertaining after party for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves together. This year, the after party is going to be at the same venue as WordCamp itself in the awesome Slug & Lettuce restaurant & bar.
With plenty of indoor space that opens up onto the beautiful River Club driving range with outside seating, along with excellent food and a fully stocked bar, you’re sure to have a great time unwinding and getting to spend some quality time with the rest of the local community. You can even make it more significant and make a point of catching up with any of our esteemed speakers.
Because WordCamp is happening on a Thursday and Friday this year (don’t forget to convince your boss to give you both days off work!), the after party is on a Friday night so there’s no pesky office to get to the following day. Coupled with the fact that you don’t even need to drive anywhere after WordCamp to get to the party, there’s no reason not to be there and to stay as late as you like!
With this year’s WordCamp Cape Town taking place at the River Club, it should come as no surprise that we’ll have some golfing fun planned. If you’ve never played golf before, or if you have, but you know you don’t have the skills, the don’t worry – actual talent doesn’t really matter in this case 🙂
Right next to the conference venue is the River Club driving range, which is not only beautiful to look at, but fun to take advantage of too – and at WordCamp you’ll be able to do just that. We will provide you with a healthy amount of golf balls and the River Club will have a few golf clubs on hand (but you can always bring your own if you like), so during the breaks you can go wild and hit as many balls you like. Use it as a chance to hang out with some new people while taking part in an activity that you may or may not have some skill in.
If you’re anything like me and you know that your golf skills are severely lacking, then it’s a great opportunity to meet others while having fun finding out who can miss the ball most often!
If you are actually somewhat skilled in the golfing arts then you can use this as an opportunity to see how well you stack up against the rest of the community – either way, it’s sure to be a blast.
With this year’s WordCamp Cape Town being run over two days, there can be some consternation from members of upper-management that their employees will be spending two full working days at a conference. If you’re in this position then we’ve got your back – simply present this letter to your manager and they will be utterly convinced that allowing you to attend WordCamp is the best decision that they will ever make.
The full letter is all right here. Alternatively you can open it up in Google Docs or download it in any of these formats: PDF, DOCX & ODT.
